This activity will use information you uncovered in Chapter Two and in the self-reflection activity you did this chapter. Why? It’s time to analyze your final project and see if your personal biases are shaping your work. Remember, everyone has bias and bias isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But bias is a problem when think we don’t have any or aren’t aware of our blind spots.

Task

  1. What are your biases? How do they shape how you see the world? Think about where you live and how you’ve grown up, as well as your family’s values. It might be useful to talk to your family and friends to get their perspective on your biases.
  2. Reflecting on your personal biases, have they influenced or shaped the work you’re doing for your final project?
  3. Does your final project account for perspectives and biases other than your own?
  4. If you think your biases have impacted your work, does it matter?
  5. As a class or in small groups, share your project bias analysis and have others provide feedback as to whether your project is biased or not – and if that’s a problem or not.
