It was a pleasure to bring a taste of Nature Labs to the Victoria Forum, moderating a fascinating cross-partisan discussion with four Canadian MPs about how Canada can grow our economy, protect our environment, strengthen our communities, unite our country and secure our sovereignty.
Against the backdrop of an evolving trade relationship with the United States, these aren’t simple questions, and there certainly aren’t simple answers. But that’s exactly where inquiry begins.
At Nature Labs, we believe asking better questions is the first step toward finding better answers. Rather than telling students what to think, we want them to explore why Canadians see these issues differently, understand the history and perspectives that brought us here, examine the choices in front of us and, ultimately, develop ideas of their own for the Canada they want to build.
That’s the thinking behind our five-part Canada at a Crossroads inquiry series.
Across five chapters, students are invited to move beyond the headlines and dig into some of the biggest questions facing Canada: What brought us here? Why do Canadians disagree? How have history, land, identity and sovereignty shaped our choices? What happens when we fail to act? And what role can young Canadians play in our democracy?
The goal isn’t to hand students a conclusion. It’s to give them the context, perspectives, questions and tools to develop their own.
Because the future of Canada isn’t something students should simply study in a textbook. It’s something they’re going to help shape.
