Dr. Aleem Bharwani

Director, Public Policy and Strategic Partnerships at Cumming School of Medicine (University of Calgary)

Dr. Aleem Bharwani is proof that good research is fundamental to career and mission. Aleem is the Director for Public Policy and Strategic Partnerships at the Cumming School of Medicine, and the Lead for Public Policy at the O’Brien Institute for Public Health at the University of Calgary. It’s a unique role that combines science and social science, with a hint of art. A specialist in internal medicine, having graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in public policy and public administration, Aleem uses research to blend different disciplines in order to advance innovations that can improve society. He’s directed both the Medical Teaching Unit and the Internal Medicine Residency Mentorship Programme at the Cumming School of Medicine. His work has been globally recognized, receiving prestigious awards from the American College of Physicians and Society of General Internal Medicine, in addition to being a resident of the Venture Incubation Program at the Harvard Innovation Lab.

Taking time from his busy schedule, Aleem spoke with us about the interconnectivity of health and nature, and the importance of weaving together divergent skills and opinions for the greater good.
