April is Earth Month

Earth Month is a time to celebrate our planet and find new ways to balance the needs of people and nature.

Every April, people around the world come together to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainability. While Earth Day (April 22) is the big moment, the entire month is packed with opportunities to learn, think, reflect and act. From tree planting to waste reduction challenges to garbage clean-up initiatives, schools, communities and organizations use this month to spark positive change.

Of course, recycling and water conservation matters, but there’s so much more we can do to find that better balance. How about thinking outside the box and launching a community project that protects biodiversity while also boosting the local economy? For example, start a native plant nursery that provides habitat for pollinators while creating local jobs, or organize eco-tours that educate people about local wildlife while supporting small businesses. Or how about this: revolutionize how we control invasive species by creating innovative ways to repurpose invasive plants as biodegradable products. In each case, not only are you helping your community, but your efforts can also be scaled to tackle urgent national and global issues that impact us all.

The possibilities are endless, so how will YOU make an impact?

Don’t forget, Nature Labs is here to help! Our 12 lessons for each course helps students understand class lessons through engaging, relevant stories and with the help of Canadian experts. More than that, we help students think critically and act creatively no matter where they live, giving them the tools to be good stewards and better citizens, today and every day.

Each week during Earth Month, we’ll be sharing highlights on social media from one chapter from our five-part story: Can We Save Every Species. As you know, we provide students with five inquiry-driven stories, like this one, to help connect class lessons to real-world issues and back to the communities where students live.

Happy Earth Month!
