Canada at a Crossroads Chapter 2: Careers

Building a Sustainable Future

Curriculum Connections:

  • Career Life Education / Career Studies – Planning for future pathways
  • Environmental Studies – Green economy and innovation
  • Economics – The role of sustainability in the workforce

Big Idea:
Emerging careers focus on solving environmental, technological, and social challenges together.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify career pathways in renewable energy, conservation, policy, and green technology.
  • Understand how “just transitions” support both workers and the planet.
  • Reflect on personal values and future goals.

Activity:
Students research one green or transition-related career (e.g., environmental engineer, climate policy advisor, Indigenous resource manager, sustainable designer).
They prepare a “Career Profile” that includes job outlook, required skills, education pathways, and how that career helps Canada find balance.
