Your Turn
Chapter Six
Most stories have a beginning, middle and end. But not this one.
Which might be unsatisfying, but here’s the thing: Life isn’t some sugary Disney story with a manufactured, perfect ending.
In life, we don’t get to know how our story ends. We don’t get to write the final chapter.
But we do get to author our own journey; we do get to write our own story.
Which is something we often forget. And it’s why even stories without endings can be so powerful: They can remind us of our story – the pain and the joy; the fear and the hope; the fragility and the resilience.
Maybe you love or hate grizzly bears. Maybe you fear them or maybe you respect them. No matter.
As you’ve probably realized by now, this isn’t really a story about two grizzly bears. It’s a story about place and connectivity. It’s about thinking critically and acting creativity. It’s about questioning our assumptions and then asking the better questions.
Most of all? It’s about the power of possibility and the power of trying.
Two grizzly bears – two average, young bears – with low odds of success in a complex, convoluted, constricting system not only found their way in life, but defied all that we assumed we knew about nature and systems by forging a new path on route to leaving their mark on this place – and this one.
Should that not give us hope?
With our infinitely larger brains and our wildly creative capacities, we too can turn life’s kaleidoscope and reimagine what we see.
We can turn the overwhelming into the relatable. We can turn misunderstanding into context. We can turn assumptions into questions. We can turn problems into solutions. We can turn predetermined paths into something unexpected and extraordinary.
We can do anything – just like these two – when we try.
